A Letter To My Body

[I subscribe to BlogHer, the community for women who blog. I know that seems a cliche but no man woman is an island. Anyway, their monthly newsletter alerted me to a community essay written by several members titled 'A Letter To Your Body'. I thought I'd do mine here.]

Dear Body,

Its been almost 6 months since you have given birth. That's not a very long time ago, considering you were growing another person in your womb for 9 months. But according to some people, you should have lost that thickened waist, fat ass, big arms and shrunk back to your pre-pregnancy weight by now. In fact, the same people suggests that you hold a JUMBLE SALE and sell off your old clothes, cos baby, it looks like you're NEVER gonna lose that weight. Its a pity that you are not an over-achiever when it comes to exercise and dieting but is one when it comes to all things frivilous. Like finishing Call of Duty on the xbox in 2 days. Or honing the ability to memorise songs in 2 shakes of a duck's tail.

So listen up. We have a beach holiday to go to in 3 weeks time. That's 21 days to get your ass in beach body beautiful shape, buddy. It seems like a tall order I know, but we must at least try. Because if not, go ahead wave the white flag and buy clothes A SIZE LARGER...'sup to you.

Now the boob area we can do with a size larger.

But in THIS post, whose punchline is another picture of Tom Cruise, 14's talent knows no boundaries.

Hilarious, and as good as coffee.

Meeting The Youngsters

On Thursday I met in person three people whose online personas are the only ones I knew of them. We were to meet at 4pm and I was curious about meeting LSM, Maurina and RA, three strangers whom I 'listen' to every day. Their online personalities are, short of a better word, arresting, and this is why I keep coming back for more. I thought about three things that I knew about each of them through their writings before I walked into a room to meet them properly for the first time.

Maurina: Effervescent, vocal, bold
RA: Inquisitive, clever, shy
LSM: Truthful, funny, one smart lad

Is there a theory that says that you could sense a person's true personality through his/her writings? If there isn’t, there should be. At least, in the case of these three, it should. I ticked off all of the above right off the bat. And in the added dimension of reality, I found RA to be shyer than he writes, smarter than he thinks and uses the camera to hide behind. I’ve read that LSM is 25 and he looks even younger. I found him wise beyond his years, and as charming as he is funny. Maurina’s eyebrows did not fail me. Neither did her bubbly personality, one that she uses together with a sharp intellect to turn her into a smart sassy cookie.

I found that in real life their personalities matched their writings on the blog. So I knew that we would have a swell time. And that, we did.

And A Good Morning To You

Samantha Brett from The Age wrote a good post about rules for men. At the end of it she asks:

A reader called Mark commented:

While there is much strife around the world involving religion and factions and guns and bombs, in certain quarters of the blogosphere tagging is considered lame and illicits much hatred.  Or so says Mr. Golden Fiddle, and the person who I wish I could link, but he kinda told me not to, but I will anyway.  After giggling hysterically at such shocking revelations, I will delete the link to Perez, simply because I too hate his hot pink tags, but never had the balls to admit it.

Jump On The Bandwagon

Everyone's got a blog these days.  According to CNN this morning, even Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian President, is a blogger. 

I can trace back my blogging roots to the Brunei youth many years ago, and if I can give credit to the bloggers who whet my appetite for baring my life for public consumption, it would be to Snixxx and FUBAR, who are quite frankly to me, the pioneers of Brunei blogging.  What an amazing voice our youth have online.  If I recall, I started/dabbled with a site on Community Zero, and various online diaries before discovering, and loving, Typepad.  Everytime I start one, I hope that it will last, and that my daily life does not interrupt the desire to save a post, for the grind of life can get in the way of blogging. 

But no can deny that blogging has become a part of our world.  We post to share our thoughts and views responsibly, to feel at one with the like-minded and our community, and to make our world feel like a much smaller place.  And that ain't a bad thing folks.

Its quite brazenly funny really, this site about a guy, his bunny and soon-to-be-dinner.  Although some might be horrified, but I don't think he'll eat Toby cos Toby's too damn cute!  Besides, the deadline has come and gone a couple of times already...
