Marilyn Tan @ The Link

Our friend Marilyn has super style and pizzazz and it shows. A mother and a wife, a bon vivant with funky hairdo, she dives and she designs unique, quirky and lovely accessories. I wear to death the gold and white-jade ring designed by Marilyn Tan that the husband bought for me.

Her creations will be showcased at The Link, Singapore from the 17th to the 30th September. Those of you who are in the vincinity of The Meritus Mandarin during those days, doing some pre-Hari Raya shopping perhaps, do drop by.

To WAG Or Not To WAG

Eversince World Cup 2006, the media have nicknamed the Wives And GirlfriendS of England's football players as WAGS.  As you know, Posh Spice is the undisputed queen of the WAGS, whose membership includes, Wayne Rooney's girl Colleen McLoughlin, Steven Gerrard's Alex Curran, Joe Cole's Carly Zucker, Frank Lampard's Elen Rives, to name but a few.

WAGS do as WAGS do.  And this is shop, shop and shop.  And of course, attending parties/dinners/premieres/football games in order to showcase what they have shopped.  With the insane amount of money their husbands and boyfriends (HABS) make, WAGS have considerable buying power and I would imagine that all the fashion designers would want a piece of their moolah. 

However, this is apparently NOT the case.

Clare Coulson from the Telegraph Online tells the delicious story of designers "fighting to protect their brands from being endorsed by the "wrong" sort of celebrity" and that "being WAGGED is now the greatest danger facing any new It-bag or hot label". 

To illustrate:  Victoria Beckham buys some Gucci at the Gucci shop at full price.  Tom Ford, at the time of the incident the designer for Gucci, sees Vicky in his Gucci designs.  Tom's PR person tells him that Vicky bought the clothes full price at the Gucci shop and Mr. Ford allegedly goes, "Well, somebody stop her!!"

According to Ms Coulson's article, other WAGGED items include: The Chloe Betty Bag, Burberry, Hermes Birkin, Stella McCartney Bags, Chanel...

So check your closet ladies, have your bags been wagged?

Vanity Thy Name Is Condi

The husband reads me stories from the Straits Times most evenings.  Yesterday evening he read me Vanity Fair's International Best Dressed List 2006.  There were the usual suspects and then some:

Mrs King Abdullah aka Queen Rania of Jordan (VF Hall of Famer - She looks extra good with her husband)

David Beckham (Thankfully NO Vicky)

Kanye West (Not sure if I agree with this choice but what do I know about hip-hop style anyway)

Kate Moss (VF Hall of Famer - No surprises here)

Oprah Winfrey (Stylish to the max with all that money)

George Clooney (The quintessential gentleman)

Prince Ernst of Hanover (Princess Caroline's hubby)

Gwen Stefani (Fashionable try-hard)

Sofia Coppola (Marc Jacob's muse)

Charlotte Casiraghi (Princess Caroline's daughter)

Anderson Cooper (You got my vote Mr. Cooper)

And Condoleezza Rice (I think its those FMBs that did it)

I am tickled pink at the thought of Condoleezza Rice and her knee-high kickass boots getting the accolade they deserve.  There is often a wavering in her voice when she speaks publicly that doesn't quite fit the image of Madam Big Cheese.  It seems misplaced, yet endearing.  And then she strides out in those Jimmy Choo FMBs.

See what I mean?  Nice one Condi.

Going Strapless

I am so fond of the strapless dress...although how often I wear one usually depends on whether I need to go on a diet or not.  Strapless dresses are a bit difficult to wear if you're a booby person, cos your bosom in a strapless will make you look like a voluptuous minx and its kinda difficult to converse with people if all they do is stare at your chest. 

Despite currently being in my booby phase, I still covet this Goddess dress by Diana Von Furstenberg.  Gorgeous.

And if I had it in my wardrobe? 

I'll have to get these slippers from Bottega Venetta too.

I need to go shop.
