Well now what have we got here?
What we got is an article from the Telegraph written by Nick Duerden, author of The Reluctant Fathers' Club, to tell women the blunt truth about being a father for the first time. And its a refreshing piece of honesty it is.
For years women have sneakily used being a first time mother as an excuse to behave with less than perfect decorum with the father of her child. You milk it for all its worth, no pun intended, all the trials and tribulations of being a first time mother. You secretly do everything because that's just the masochistic side in all women. Then we blame the men for the microscopic speedy little buggers that caused us to balloon in more places than is necessary. And this enormous love and pride for your little darling and how you are a mother so hear you roar, you wonder why he doesn't feel it with the same magnitude.
Well now the fathers are voicing their feelings on being a first time parents. Mr Duerden himself says:
"I had never fully known bewilderment before our daughter, Amaya, came along, but I all too quickly became rudely conversant in it immediately afterwards. The first few months of her life turned ours comprehensively upside down. Everything was new; there was much to learn. Nights became battlegrounds, unbroken sleep a thing of the past. My girlfriend became so necessarily devoted to the hourly ministrations of our child that I became an underemployed presence in my own house, hanging around on the off-chance she needed something warming up, or cooling down. We barely talked."
and that
"Maternal love may be instinctive, but paternal love is learned behaviour."
That's right moms, give your men a little break, they've got issues too poor lambs. Soon both of you can watch Oprah together.
