Beloved husband may not look like your run-of-the-mill runner, all lean and whippet thin, but he is a runner nonetheless. As we all know, I am not. In my way younger days, I could attempt a 100m or 200m sprint, but nowadays, the only running I do is limited to speedy road crossings. But I would like to think that I am a supportive wife. So sometime last year I bought Bobby an iPod Nano to keep him company during his runs and also the Nike+ running chip. The Nike+ chip is inserted into your running shoe so that you can integrate your running with your iPod.
Since then, my husband has turned into a tech-savvy runner. Downloading onto his iPod like his life depended on it his favourite podcasts to listen whilst jogging the Brunei roads, beach or jungle. And after his runs, he diligently downloads his time and distance via the iPod onto the NikePlus website. I have been told that one feature of the Nike+ chip is that once you've done your fastest mile Paula Radcliffe's voice comes on to interrupt the normal iPod broadcast and congratulate you on a job well done. Freaky, but inspiring I suppose.
Yesterday afternoon Bobby came home after a run on Tungku Beach and we had this conversation:
Beloved Husband: Guess who popped by after I finished my run??
Supportive Wife: Who??
Beloved Husband: One Ball Lance!!
Supportive Wife: Who?!?!
Apparently, Lance Armstrong's disembodied voice comes on after you've finished your longest workout. It truly is a freakily techie world out there.
Cartoon snagged from here.
