During the month of Ramadan, observant Muslims around the world start a month of fasting. The Muslims in Brunei are no different. Between dawn and sunset, we try our very best not to eat, drink, smoke, pick our nose. There are of course, exceptions, for the sick and infirm and the like. Undertaking religious activities and thinking good, pure thoughts are encouraged. Lustful and angry thoughts are not. I feel that food and drink taste extra special during Ramadan. And after breaking fast at sunset, we are encouraged to perform the tarawih.
Most of us will wake up to have an early breakfast (called sahur) pre-dawn, or for when we're feeling trendsome, head out around midnight to have sahur in restaurants like Dynasty in Centerpoint, Gadong.
And when the new moon arrives, it's time to celebrate Hari Raya where we get dolled up, consume cakes and carbonated drinks for a month.
Selamat Berpuasa to those near and far xx
Hi Emma.
It is always nice to hear from a muslim the own pleasure and respect toward the Ramadhan event. Though i am not from Dubai, i am from Brazil, i imagine how nice should do this year after year, in a ritual that promotes inner enlightment and peace.
Congrats,
Daniel Mafra.
