FRIDAY
Brunch at Coffee Zone
Diva D and I headed over to Coffee Zone in Kiulap for some brunch. No pictures, but she had the Nasi Lemak Special, and I had the Chicken Subwich and a double espresso (I am not a morning person). Since Brunei is a small country, of course we bumped into someone we both know and Zubby walked in full of sunshine and a tale of wax.
Innerspace
The husband and I think the buyer for Innerspace has a pretty good eye. Diva D promised to come back for the swell gray wrought iron glass-bottomed trays. Innerspace in Kiulap stocks pretty baubles and handbags, elegant and chic table wares and accessories, striking lamps, and a whole lot more that you feel trendy just being in the shop.
South Haven
We should be lucky to have South Haven in Brunei. Affordable work wear, cute tops and skirts makes this shop in Kiulap a good find for Diva D.
The Mall
We parked at Basement Level 2 at The Mall Gadong. Boutique Eileen Chen on the first floor always has something nice to buy. There are damn good finds in there if you take the time to browse. Diva D left with hot pink chiffon pleated sleeveless top and wore her new top this evening. She found Dainty on the groundfloor to have great cheap tops too.
At Home
A must for girlie friends is watching a chick flick. Especially one that is a dance movie, against all odds, predictable but damn irresistible, with cute leads. Half an afternoon was spent just being girls and unashamedly liking Step Up very much. A movie reviewer online described is as "Flashdance without the welding mask", "Footloose without the uptight minister". Good fluffy fun.
Lil' Princess Nora's Birthday
Chic young mothers in Brunei always have a birthday party to attend. We are a closed-knit community and actually any excuse to hang out with your family and girlie friends is welcomed. I brought Diva D to DeeTs to partake briefly in all the merriment. A party organised by Wren & Pudding, our Ms DJ became Princess DJ and played games with happy Disney characters, mostly dressed as princesses complete with tiny tiaras. And I thought the cake from Sheraton was lovely. Happy Birthday Nora!
Car Envy
Diva D hails from Kuching and currently resides in Kuala Lumpur, West Malaysia, where cars are notoriously expensive, with her Mr DJ and two cats called Bagheera and Enola Gay. We headed over to Maju Motors to check the prices for the diesel Touareg. In Malaysia you would have to fork out approximately RM$345,000-00 (basic specs) in comparison to the BND$99,000-00 (diesel 3.0) here. You do the math while Diva D is thinking of moving countries.
Dinner at Fratinis
There is always a happening vibe in Gadong at night. You sit outside Coffee Bean, or Fratinis or Coffee Zone, and watch the cars go by. Some with their boom-boom box on so loud that the earth vibrates. Myuzim, Diva D and I sat outside for some Italian food at Fratinis and watched how busy the streets of Brunei are a week after payday.
And of course, a weekend in Brunei is never complete without some singsong. The Diva? Even she came, and she sang, and having known her for the best part of 16 years, she very rarely does, so this clip was immediately YouTubed and embedded for posterity.
