Known to all as The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin died speared by a stingray in the waters just off Port Douglas on Monday the 4th of September 2006. Well known (and loved) for his oft too-close encounters with animals, the most recent that comes to my mind was when he held his infant daughter Bindi in one hand, and fed a really large crocodile using the other. It was not without a touch of dare and people were outraged because he was plain silly, just as they were when Michael Jackson dangled his baby off a Berlin hotel balcony.
Still, the world mourns for the death of Steve Irwin, ace TV personality and conservationist. Australians will mourn him the most, for he was a proud Aussie, speaking unabashedly in Ocker just like Kylie Kwong, and loving those khaki shorts a little too much.
And many, including the newsreaders this morning, will also think 'Crikey, you were just a wee bit too close there Steve-O...'.
Rest in peace mate.
Oh thanks for pointing that out, have changed the date now..careless me! xx

Not meant in a snide way or anything, but the date you mentioned is one month ago. :)
He is very entertaining, and he stood out for me more as compared to the other dudes who've played with snakes and crocodiles due to his wild hair and very alert eyes.
R.I.P. indeed.
