Although only an hour and a half away on a speedy boat, Kuraman is actually another country. How do I know this? A text message from Digi alerts me so. But I'm going ahead of myself, so let me start from the beginning...
In the beginning there were some people who woke up early on Sunday to sit on a speedy boat and visit Kuraman Island with the help of those efficient boys at Scuba-Tech, based at the Empire Hotel. We plodded along in various styles of beach wear to the boat a bit grumpy, a bit hungry and still sleepy. But it promises to be a swell day ahead as the sun was shining bright and boy was it hot.
Fare thee well Empire, onwards Kuraman!
We all breathed a sigh of relief at the first sight of Kuraman as its a bit of a wet trek getting to the island. Especially if you don't own a yacht...
Even if it is a bit bare, with toilet facilities not for the squeamish and the snorkeling leaves much to be desired, I found Kuraman and the sea around it to be unpretentious, simple and quite lovely. Besides, spending the day on an island, in the sun and sea with your loved ones and friends, is always a swell thing to do.
We thought we stumbled upon a prehistoric turtle in the sand, but alas, it was a football from the Royal Stables. It had Royal Stables 2006 written in red marker pen on the top, I swear.
A Starfish is hard and not soft. I learn something new every day.
A picture of the boat coming up to the shores of the Empire Hotel. There are photos of us looking wet, bedraggled and sunburnt but I'll spare my seafaring mates.
But we obviously did not have enough of the sun and proceeded to race around on quad bikes (rentable from Scuba-Tech) when we got to shore.
Thank you to all of you who woke up so early to spend a day in the sun and sea at Kuraman with the husband and I. Thank you too, to the World's No. 1 Chuck Norris Fan (you know who you are!) for taking good care of us and arranging it all.
