Kittens Love Rain

I have a love/hate relationship with Thursdays.  It usually starts with a meeting.  Which I hate.  And then kitten lunch.  Which I love.  Its really as simple as that.

It was my turn to choose a venue, so I chose Portview.  Portview, located in town, is always a firm favourite amongst us.  It has a good and varied Italian menu (I love the carpaccio and the seafood soup), local dishes cooked well (mee goreng!), super cafe latte, the butterfly ice tea we all love, and mostly, we love smokers and it has an outside area where you sit and look across the Brunei River over to Kampung Ayer.  Do try not to look at that big red anti-drug signage with the big-assed scary needle sticking out of it, but if you look elsewhere, the view is unique, kitschy and lovely.  And if it rains like it did today, calm and serene, if not a little blue.

This is the view from where I was sitting.  It was a little chilly sitting outside, but we took turns wearing Ms DJ's woolly cardigan.  We were all in good spirits especially Ms DJ :)  I was quite late for lunch because I got stuck in traffic enroute to town.  There was a big truck crane vehicle with very wet men on them fixing the decorative lights for His Majesty's birthday celebrations on the 15th of July, which promises to be a grand affair because His Majesty turns 60 this year.  Happy Birthday Your Majesty, but I wish the electrical department or whomever was in charge, could fix the lights at night when there are less cars on the road.  Not during lunchtime rush hour, and when it is raining cats and dogs.  Firstly, its not safe for those poor guys.  Secondly, think of those parents stuck in traffic with kids in the car with that yawn-inducing, mumbling woman on Kristal FM.

Man, I must learn to take a chill-pill.

Nuptial News

I haven't posted for 2 days and Nicole Kidman went off and got married to Keith Urban in Sydney on Sunday the 25th of June. 

Awww...

Congratulations Nicole, I do hope that you have found true love and everlasting happiness with Mr. Urban.  And good on you for being a smart cookie and have a prenup with an escape clause.  Tom Cruise is a quack, you should thank your lucky stars that your 10-year contract with him expired when it did...

A few days ago, my fellow BGesper Diva D alerted me to the recent shenanigans of Malaysia's favourite singing superstar Siti Nurhaliza.  Now, I have always thought that underneath that lily-white exterior lies a heart made up of pure unadulterated evil and that she shoots up between her toes and make sacrifices during the full moon.  I could be wrong.

However, Malaysia's darling of the music industry has now gone and found herself the sleaziest man in Malaysia.  A man nicknamed (affectionately my ass) Datuk K.  Datuk Khalid Muhammad Jiwa is a Malaysian businessman who divorced his first wife in 2004 because she did not fulfill certain conditions imposed by her husband during their marriage.  If that doesn't sound like a sleazoid, I don't know what is.  Siti is being coy about her impending nuptials to Datuk S (for sleazoid) and I don't really know why.  Actually, I don't really care about the coyness, the question one should be asking is WHY HIM??

My theoretical answer to that question is Siti, despite her superstardom, remains very much the hick kampung girl who has dreams of marrying a businessman who looks like Rhoma Irama on a bad day.  I mean this is a woman who referred to her "dimples" as "nipples" when a reporter asked her what she liked most about herself.  Come on Siti, give the Malaysians classier, juicier gossip than Datuk K.  At the very least, you could have "stolen" Yusry from Erra.  Now that would be a catfight to look out for.

The Prodigal Son Returns

Myuzim's flight came in from Singapore around 4pm this afternoon and I am just so glad he is home and breathing the same air as me.

I am however, NOT glad with the bleached hair.  Gaaaah!  J-Pop does not rule!  How can I impress this on my 14 year old?  That he is not an anime cartoon!  A friend of mine advises that hair is the least of a mothers' problems and I should be very glad it is only his hair that bugs me.  With that note, I shall allow Myuzim to keep his new hairdo.  For a few days :)

And so, here's my friend Marilyn who has funky hair and my son who also has funky hair having lunch in Singapore.

PS/  Thank you Marilyn, for taking Myuzim out to a proper lunch (I am sure he's been eating junk food the whole holiday!) and for inspiring me how to be a better mom.

Aqiqah For Iman

We had a majlis aqiqah for baby Iman this evening and the sacrificial lamb was to be had by all.  I was trying to abstain from eating the lamb for fear of making my belly ache but it looked really good, and what the hey.  We had prayers so I snuck in a prayer for my belly as well.  And I finally managed to take pictures of my two nieces, Zara and Iman to share.

Seven-Up Beach At Twelve Noon

The husband did what he promised.  We got up, showered & dressed in beach wear, rubbed in sunscreen, found my straw hat, made sandwiches and drove off to the beach.  We had to walk our way through some undergrowth on an overgrown path.  I switched on my Halle-Berry-In-A-White-Bikini-Bond-Chick mode and tried not to panic at the thought of snakes or monitor lizards near my ankles.

About 10 minutes of feeling like bushmen, we get to the beach and what a lovely beach it was.  And blessedly, there was nobody on our beach.  On the way to a nicer spot, we stumbled upon quicksand (I don't know how else to describe it, for my ankles were sinking in the sand.  Quick.) which made me a bit petulant.  We found a shaded spot just beyond a cave and I settled in, feeling quite cheerful that we have found us a spot to have sunday picnics.  The sun peeked in and out because rain was coming, and before the sandflies come, the husband build us a fire(!).  Its nice that there are still things about him that surprise me.  We read a bit and ate our sandwiches and took some pictures.

And then the rain came and we trotted back out into the urban world.  Enroute to the car we met a dog we called Roger who looked liked he wanted us to bring him home.  But we couldn't and we didn't and we got home a bit wet and sandy, to our lil' monsters Rinka, Komo and Flora (from left to right).

The Last Post On A Sunday Morning

Its 1.26 in the morning and we just got back home from watching the Germany vs Sweden match with Riff, Babs & MatBon.  It was a boring match as Germany was up 2 to 0 by the 15th minute.  Plus Sweden were playing with 10 men by the 2nd half.  The Swedes march to the Finals ended this evening whilst I occupied myself by singing golden oldies karaoke songs.  I swear Karaoke soothes the soul.

I gotta catch me some sleep.  The husband promised a picnic tomorrow at Seven-Up beach and I am thinking that it would be fun building sandcastles in the sun.  See you all later.

T.G.I.S

Myuzim is in Singapore.  Having a holiday with 10 of his cousins.  I am a bit freaked by the thought of him being a sea away but must learn to trust and let go.  This morning I rang him to say hello and he tells me he's "having lunch with Auntie Marilyn tomorrow" and she's picking him up at the hotel at noon.  My son has gone all cosmopolitan on me, and that makes me nervous but glad.

Have I mentioned Saturday is my favourite day of the week?  It always feels like a fresh sunny day and I don't get that gut clenching feeling because the next day is Monday.  So I sit here all freshly showered waiting for the husband to take me out for some Japanese lunch.  I'm thinking Kura at The Mall for chawan mushi.  And salmon sashimi.  Myumyum.  The Mall is always good value at the weekend.  You have time to browse the shops after lunch and I am constantly surprised to find that I am in a mall in Brunei.

T.G.I.F.

and boy do I mean it.

Monday was busy and sadly could spare no time for the girls.  Tuesday was busy and managed to lunch with Babs.  Wednesday was spent mostly at the hospital but had the husband to care for me and D to msn with me.  Thursday was as usual, good girlie lunch and just when the day ended, work fucking hits me like a sledgehammer to my skull.

And today was spent thanking God its Friday and for the husband, who is just so patient with me.

PS/ I also saw Babs today, who looks fresh and young with her new hair length.  Nice one girl.
